3M™ Polyester Tape 8992

The dark green 3M™ Polyester Tape 8992 has a silicone adhesive for superior heat resistance, making it the ideal choice for high temperature applications or on surfaces that are hard to stick with normal polyester tapes. It’s the go-to for masking for powder coat painting, particularly as it provides sharp paint lines and removes cleanly without slivering or breaking. It can also be used for roll closing and splicing silicone treated liners, holding together parts during composite bonding, tabbing or in chemical processes such as anodizing.

The silicone adhesive has a far superior heat resistance when compared with the rubber and acrylic adhesives used in other tapes. As a result, it will work from -50°C up to 204°C, without suffering from softening, oozing or the transfer of the adhesive from tape to surface. Silicone adhesive is also ideal for using with otherwise hard-to-stick surfaces. It will bond effectively with silicone liners and even with surfaces covered with mould release spray.

What’s more, it’s designed to be flexible and easy to attach. Additionally, the transparent green colour of this high-strength polyester tape makes it stand out against the surface, helping ensure placement is obvious when applying or removing this tape, and, when doing the latter, you can expect it to leave no marks. The polyester backing is also chemical, thermal and abrasion resistant, ensuring that this tape stays in place, avoiding curling or shrinking, no matter what.

This product is a thicker version of the blue 3M™ 8991 Polyester Tape.
