3M™ Greenback Printed Circuit Plating Tape 851

Our 3M™ Greenback Printed Circuit Plating Tape 851 is suited for masking printed circuit boards during electroplating and in other high temperature applications, such as the precious metal plating of fingers. It can also be used for splicing silicone-coated papers.

A translucent green polyester backing ensures this tape remains robust, doesn’t stretch and can be applied accurately and without an uneven stop-off line, either by hand or using a machine. It uses a uniquely thick silicone and rubber adhesive blend that is conformable and prevents undercutting by blocking out solutions between fingers.

For optimal performance, we recommend that this adhesive tape should be used when no ovens are used to heat the tape and circuit board. For added durability, a polyethylene tape core replaces a cardboard core in this tape.

For secure and effective application, we recommend using a rubber-covered roller or platen press until a high definition outline of the circuit is achieved, thus indicating sufficient pressure has been employed and the tape is firmly in place. Once this circuit plating tape has been attached, we recommend using an appropriate solvent to clean the board before subsequent soldering occurs.

To maintain the optimum performance of this circuit plating tape, we recommend storing it at between 16°C and 27°C and at 50% relative humidity. To achieve the quality and application that you should expect of 3M™ products, this tape should also be used within 18 months of manufacture.

This printed circuit plating tape comes in a roll length of 66m.
